The Durham Girls Soccer League in Action!

The Durham Girls Soccer League fall season is underway! With over 240 participants in three different age groups, the league has been growing every season! All girls ages 6 to 13 years old are welcome to sign up for both the fall and spring leagues. Games are held on Saturdays and there is a one-hour practice each week.

Registration for the spring season began on October 10, so if you, or a friend, are interested, please contact Frank Sidoti or visit our website for more information! The season will begin the weekend of March 16, 2019. Stay tuned to our website for the game schedule and other important details coming soon.

DGSL Coach, Coby Linton
What is your current volunteer role with Durham Parks and Recreation?
  • I've been coaching in the Durham Girls Soccer League for about ten seasons.
When did you decide to start volunteering?
  • Some good friends had been coaching our oldest daughter's DGSL soccer team. Several of the girls on her team had little sisters who wanted to play, so I jumped on board to create a "younger sisters" team for my younger daughter and a handful of others.
Why did you want to sign up to be a DGSL Coach?
  • I didn't! I own a small business and I was nervous about the time commitment that coaching would involve. After just a couple practices, though, it became clear that coaching would be amazing and I've loved it ever since.
Share a funny or memorable story from your time volunteering.
  • Our team has such a blast together. The kids love the game, but of course they also love to goof off. In a recent practice I was working hard to get everyone focused when one of the girls spotted a rainbow. Everything just froze and we all sort-of howled at the sky for a minute or two in recognition of the rainbow. Then they all jumped right back into the drill without missing a beat. Great stuff.
A huge shoutout and thank you to Coby for being an awesome DPR volunteer and coach for the Durham Girls Soccer League! We love our volunteers and could not offer the programs and activities that we do without them.
