Renting Special Use DPR Facilities: Durham Armory

Overview

Located on the corner of Foster and Morgan streets, The Durham Armory is the perfect venue for your next event! The facility features a spacious ballroom/auditorium with an open floor plan that can hold 585 people, without tables chairs. There is also a wrap-around balcony for upper seating for guests, that holds 314 people. For private space to get ready or prep items for your event, there are two smaller capacity rooms, the Birch Room, which holds 20 people, and the Oak Room, which holds 30 people. While the facility is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas day, there are plenty of other dates for you to choose from. Rental times include Sunday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. with a minimum time rental of 6 hours. If you’re interested in viewing the space, tours are provided every 1st and 3rd Monday of the month, from noon to 6 p.m. No appointment is necessary to attend.

Amenities

Your caterer will be at ease with the features of the large kitchen inside including an industrial stove, double sick, microwave, refrigerator and ice machine. The Durham Armory is capable of adjusting heat and air levels and also includes a coat room, snack bar, tables (30 72 inch round tables and 40 8 foot banquet tables) as well as 350 chairs and ample parking surrounding the facility. Please note, amenity availability is subject to change. 

Frequently Asked Questions

What can we expect for parking, both for guests as we as loading and unloading?
  • Parking for loading and unloading is permitted under the carport in the back of the building. Guest parking is available on the street or at the Durham Centre Parking Garage located at 300 W. Are there any pictures from previous events available to look at? Is alcohol allowed at the Durham Armory?
  • Alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited except when permits to serve such beverages are obtained from Durham Parks and Recreation and/or the State ABC Board. Permits can be found at the ABC Commission website. For more detailed information on alcohol, visit our website.
What fees are associated with renting The Durham Armory?
  • A security deposit is required in addition to standard rental fees that apply to both city and non-city residents. Additional fees may be considered including application fees, food fees, setup and dismantle and commercial rental. For current pricing, visit our website.

Reservation Details

We are currently accepting reservations for 2019. To inquire about open availability, contact our reservations specialist at reservations@durhamnc.gov, 919-560-4355, ext. 27202 or visit our Administration office located at 400 Cleveland Street, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Please keep in mind that all reservations must be made at least 45 days in advance.

The books for 2020 will open on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at 8:30 a.m, located at The Durham Armory. This is our annual scheduling meeting.
