Canine Field Day: A Tail Wagging Paw-tay

Mark your calendar! Join us, rain or shine, for Canine Field Day on Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at Rock Quarry Park! This event will host tons of fun events for you and your pooch. Come run your dog through our agility zone, try your luck at some of our games and contests, or even enter in the Hyperflite Skyhoundz State Championship Competition. Every pup and their person will have a dog-gone good time!

Durham’s Canine Field Day will be hosting the Hyperflite Skyhoundz Championship Distance/Accuracy and Freestyle Completion. Skyhoundz is the largest disc dog competition series, and hosts competitions all over the globe, from Argentina to South Korea. There are no restrictions on the size or breed of dog competing; the only requirement is the desire to participate! This is the 4th year in a row that Canine Field Day has hosted the Skyhoundz State Championship. The competition consists of two 90-second rounds of freestyle and one 60-second round of distance/accuracy. Complete as many throws and catches as possible within the time limit for both events, but add in some fun tricks and moves during free style! Winners are selected by totaling all three rounds. For more information, visit skyhoundz.com. You and your dog will enjoy spectating or competing.

If your Good Boy/Girl prefers agility over fetch, take a shot at our obstacle course. This course is exciting for all levels- featuring weave poles, hurdles, ramps, hoops, and more! Agility courses are excellent for our pets, both for exercise and mental stimulation. Often times, the cause of behavioral issues can be traced back to boredom. Agility training sharpens the mind, increases alertness, helps maintain a healthy fitness level, as well as creates space for bonding between you and your pet.
Other games, contests, and booths will be available as well. Search for hidden treats, catch tennis balls, play with toys, and show off your best tricks! Make friends with other pets and their humans, or even come just to pet all the cute dogs.

Studies have proven repeatedly that pets improve our lives. Having a dog reduces stress, increases wellness, provides companionship, and teaches responsibility. Our dogs do so much for us- so let’s spend some time celebrating them at Canine Field Day. It is sure to be a tail wagging paw-ty!
