Every day, millions of people are celebrating birthdays and turning another year older! Whether you’re turning five or fifty years old, what better way to celebrate than to have a party with all of your close friends and family! And we have the perfect location for your party...our Durham parks! 

Did you know that several of our parks and facilities are available to rent for your next event, family gathering, concert or birthday party? Make this year special and check out all of the rental options that we have to offer! Here are some tips to planning the perfect party…

Choose a Theme

Let’s decide what kind of birthday you’re trying to plan!? Are you going for a sports enthusiast party, summer water fun party, a quinceañera or a sweet 16 party? Your party theme will help determine which location you should rent based on what activities you want to have, how many people you are inviting and how long you are wanting to host the party. We can even accommodate those looking for a more adventurous, thrill-seeking birthday party!

Book the Location

Based on your theme, we have several different rentalable venues for you to choose from such as athletic fields (baseball, softball, soccer, futsal, multipurpose, tennis, and basketball), picnic shelters, campsites, indoor pools, and special use facilities (Durham Armory, Forest Hills Neighborhood Clubhouse, McCown-Mangum House, Spruce Pine Lodge). For the thrill-seekers, check out our low and high ropes courses for the ultimate challenge.

Plan Activities Galore

Everyone loves a good party game! If you’re planning an outdoors gathering at a picnic shelter or campsite, consider bringing yard games such as cornhole, ladderball and bocce ball. You could also incorporate water games, if it’s a hot day, such as a water balloon toss and a water relay. For a quinceañera or sweet 16, guests will enjoy snapping pics with props at a photo booth and filling up a bag of sweet treats at a candy bar. Whatever your party theme is, your guests will be sure to have a good time with some simple and fun activities.

Provide Good Eats

Sweet and yummy treats are a necessity at birthday parties! From catering to making your own food, there are plenty of great ways to feed your guests. Most of our picnic shelters have a grill near them to cook burgers or other food items (confirm when you are booking if this is something you are wanting to have available). If you’re considering a party at one of our special use facilities, check out their kitchen features before finalizing a caterer.
