October is right around the corner and we have a jam packed month full of events, activities, and programs for all ages! So you don't miss out on all the festivities, we created a go-to guide highlighting what to mark on your calendar and make sure you're in attendance. Keep in mind, we regularly update the calendar on our website with activities year round so make sure to check there for more details including how how to register and contact information!

- History Hike: Through Hugh's View: The Mangum family called West Point home for years, and their oldest son, Hugh, photographed the area for many of them. Join us as we visit some of the locations he captured through his camera lens. This hike will be about one mile long. No dogs on this hike as we will be going in and out of buildings. We will meet at the West Point Mill. [10 a.m. - 12 p.m., West Point on the Eno]
- Pumpkin Splash: Select your favorite pumpkin from one of many FLOATING in the pool, dry it off on the pool deck and use paints, stickers, and all kinds of fun craft supplies to decorate it. All swim levels are welcome and life vests will be provided. An adult will need to enter the water with children 9 years of age and younger. [5:30 p.m. - 7 p.m., Edison Johnson Aquatic Center]
- Fall Colors Sunset Paddle: Enjoy the fall colors of the trees along Lake Michie while paddling canoes and kayaks with DPR Outdoor Recreation. We will provide the equipment. You will need to wear closed toe shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. Preregistration is required and children must be accompanied by an adult. [5 p.m. - 7 p.m., Lake Michie Boating Area]
- Fright Night: Calling all of Durham's ghosts and ghouls! DPR will host a fall event for all ages including classic carnival games, a costume parade, and for those who love a fright, a haunted house that will have you "howling" with screams and laughter! Come out in your favorite spooky attire to have great fun for a great cause! [6 p.m. - 9 p.m., Edison Johnson Recreation Center]
- DisAble the Label: Celebrate Disability Awareness Month with us. Enjoy free food, performances, adapted sport demonstrations, exhibits from local agencies and resources, giveaways, children's games/activities, and much more. There is something for everyone and ALL are welcome and encouraged to come! [11 a.m. - 2 p.m., CFLRC at Lyon Park]
- Mature Adults: State Fair: The entertainment, the rides, the food and the fun - it is fair time once again. Join us for Senior Day at the North Carolina State Fair. There will be refreshments, give-aways and all of the usual fair experiences! Fair admission is FREE for folks 65+. Preregistration required. Register online at dprplaymore.org, any recreation center, or the administration office. Transportation provided. Meet at Northgate Mall near Sears Auto Center. [8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., NC State Fairgrounds]
- Glow in the Dark Dodgeball: Remember the days of playing dodgeball? Now is your chance to play it again, but in the dark! Come out and enjoy a fun new way of playing glow in the dark dodgeball. Individuals and teams are welcomed to participate in this high-energy dodgeball game. At least 4 players on a team, no more than 6 players per team. First half of event will be round robin play followed by a single game elimination tournament. Come out and see what all the excitement is about! Preregistration required. [6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., Walltown Park Recreation Center]
- A Hol-ton of Fun: Join the Holton staff for a fun filled family event celebrating Fall. This is a free drop-in program that is open to all ages. [6 p.m. - 8 p.m., Holton Career & Resource Center]
- Starlight Friday: Spend an evening with the stars, under the stars! Bring the family to enjoy an outdoor movie! These free movies will start at sunset! *Due to movie licensing, we are unable to advertise the movie that will be playing. Please call ahead to find out what we're showing! [7:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m., Oval Drive Park]
- Family Day Out: Pumpkin Picking: Bring the family out for a day of fun! We will be traveling to a local pumpkin patch to go pumpkin picking! Your family can pick out the perfect pumpkin to carve or to make that perfect pumpkin pie. Preregistration required. [10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Walltown Park Recreation Center]
- Barktoberfest: Join us for a celebration for our canine residents and their families. Join us for an afternoon of fun which will include a costume contest, games, pet-friendly organizations and vendors, food vendors, and more! This is free and open to the public. [3 p.m. - 6 p.m., Durham Central Park]
- Spooky Shenanigans: Have your preschooler help us celebrate Halloween and the start of fall! Enjoy story time, music, crafts and refreshments with this fun event. For ages 3-5 years old and preregistration is required. [10 a.m. - 12 p.m., Walltown Park Recreation Center]
- Vamp It Up!: Calling all friendly vampires, ghosts, and goblins. You are invited to a costume party! Dress in your Halloween best and enjoy some spectacular games, crafts, and fun. For ages 2-5 years old and preregistration is required. [11 a.m. - 12 p.m., Edison Johnson Recreation Center]
- Hallow-Eno: Join us for our annual Halloween event, an evening full of fun for the whole family! Designed particularly for children ages 12 and younger, this special event features campfire stories and songs, hayrides, treats, crafts, games, and face painting. No need to register - just come out, rain or shine! [6 p.m. - 9 p.m., West Point on the Eno]
