Got Pickleball? DPR Does!

Looking for a way to pump up your fitness routine? Join the welcoming community of residents playing Pickleball in Durham! Pickleball is a racquet sport which combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis. And there is no need to worry about the weather, this open recreation sport will have participants enjoying friendly game play in a climate controlled indoor setting. Whether you are new to the game or a seasoned expert, join us as we focus on the main components of the game of Pickleball and learn the strategy of the game. We offer Pickleball at four of our Recreation Centers as a drop-in program, no preregistration is required. Please note, there is a small fee for city and non-city residents. For the upcoming Fall 2019 season, here are the locations and playing times for Pickleball:

W.D. Hill Recreation Center (located at 1308 Fayetteville Street)
Open to ages 18 and up!
  • September 6 - December 27: Fridays, 12 p.m. - 3 p.m. (except 11/29)
  • September 7 - December 28: Saturdays, 2:15 p.m. - 5:15 p.m.
I.R. Holmes, Sr. Recreation Center at Campus Hills (located at 2000 S. Alston Avenue)
Open to ages 18 and up!
  • September 9 - December 16: Mondays, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. (except 11/11)
  • September 4 - December 18: Wednesdays, 6:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. (except 10/9, 11/6)
  • September 6 - December 27: Fridays, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. (except 11/29)
CFLRC At Lyon Park (located at 1309 Halley Street)
Open to ages 19 and up!
  • September 9 - December 16: Mondays, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. (except 11/11)
Walltown Park Recreation Center (located at 1308 W. Club Boulevard)

If you're looking for something more than just open play, there are two upcoming DPR tournaments to be aware of...
  1. The first is the DPR Pickleball Exhibition Tournament which will be held on Saturday, September 7 at Bethesda Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This Round Robin Mixed Doubles exhibition will have tournament style play. Teams will compete in their age bracket based on the age of the youngest player on their team. Pools may be combined at discretion of committee. T-shirts and light refreshments will be provided to all participants. Whether you're looking for a mixed doubles tune up tournament, some mixed doubles practice, or just coming out to be part of the fun, this is for you! 
  2. The second is the Walltown Pickleball Tournament on Saturday, December 7 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Walltown Park Recreation Center. The tournament will be a Round Robin Mens & Womens mixed doubles competition. There will be two pools. Each team will play one game to 11 points (win by 1) against each of the other 5 teams in their pool during match play. T-shirts and light refreshments will be provided to all participants. Enjoy a day of friendly competition in our beautiful gymnasium.

And when you do come to visit, make sure to wear comfy athletic clothes that you can move around in, a water bottle and your equipment (if you have any). Be aware, some fees do apply to tournaments and open play.
