Play With Me: Ages 6-9 Art [Part 3]
By: Shannon Mallery, Program Assistant Sr. - Mature Adults
This is the last week of Play With Me: Ages 6-9 Art series. We will be challenging ourselves to make puzzle pictures. Play With Me is a series of interactive and meaningful activities that you can do over technology with the children in your life.
Before getting started, adult assistance will be needed to help collect and setup supplies for the children. Consider sending the supply list ahead of time so the adult can prepare in advance.
Supplies/Setup
For this activity you will both try to make the picture you choose out of the shapes provided. The shapes are not separated for each picture and you will have to use a little trial and error to get the correct ones you need.
There are enough shapes to make each of the pictures, but no extras. Some are a little tricky and may need you to cut them into a different shape then they are on the paper. The turtle is the easiest, then the bunny, then the train, the shark is the hardest. You can also use the shapes to come up with your own designs or animals.
As you work on the print out sheets together, talk about what you are doing:

As you work on the print out sheets together, talk about what you are doing:
- Remember color choices can be natural and imaginary.
- Encourage and compliment your child's coloring, cutting and gluing skills.
- This is a challenging activity so take it slow together, use it as a time to talk about other things your child likes to do that challenge them.
- Tell them about challenging activities that you enjoy.
- Use this time to talk about challenges you have had in your life that were difficult for you and how you overcame them.
- When you are done cutting, gluing and coloring your puzzle pictures talk about what you liked and didn't like about doing something challenging.
Next week's Play With Me series provides a new way of looking at something we do all the time! Until then, Stay involved, Be heard and remember to Play More with DPR!
