Participate in the 2021 Durham Senior Games & SilverArts
Mature Adults across the area are eagerly anticipating the return of Durham Senior Games & SilverArts (DSGSA) in 2021. DSGSA is an Olympic style competition designed to create a year-round health promotion and competition for participants that are 50+ years old. This year’s games will be held April 26 through May 18, 2021.
Much thought and deliberation has gone into fulfilling our primary goal which is that all 2021 Senior Games & SilverArts activities will be offered safely and within the existing COVID-19 guidelines.
As we continue dealing with COVID-19, there have been many changes to the 2021 Durham Senior Games & SilverArts. The number of both athletic and artistic events, the format of SilverArts submissions, new locations for some events, and many other necessary changes to meet health and safety standards have been implemented.
This year, participants will compete in a wide range of events including heritage and visual arts, croquet, table tennis, basketball shooting, swimming, pickleball, golf, tennis, and more!
Registration opens Monday, March 1 and closes at 5 p.m. Friday, April 2. There are three ways to register:
Entry fees are $14 for City Residents and $19 for Non-City Residents. Fees include entry into all events except for golf which is an additional fee. Registered participants will also receive a Durham Senior Games visor.
SilverArts entries for 2021 will be in the visual and heritage arts categories only. All submitted piece(s) will be showcased virtually. Winners will be presented awards at the Virtual SilverArts & Games Closing Ceremony on Tuesday, May 18 at 5:30 p.m.
The 2021 SilverArts entries will be handled through a drive-through process at the Durham Center for Senior Life. Registered participants in SilverArts will be given a specific timeframe in which to bring in and pick up their art piece(s) in a socially distanced manner. Specific details will be sent to SilverArts participants prior to April 12.
In the coming weeks, more detailed information will be available about specific events and activities like the Virtual Closing Ceremonies; SilverArts; and an overview of the athletic events.
Make sure to visit the Durham Senior Games page for information about awards, calendar of events, and more. Please review the information carefully so you are fully informed about the changes for 2021.
