Get Fit in the Great Outdoors
Looking to mix-up your workout routine or maybe you're trying to start some healthy habits!? Either way, did you know some of our Durham parks are equipped with outdoor exercise and fitness equipment!? We'll share all the local places you can get your exercise on this summer!
- Carroll Street Park: Located at 815 Carroll Street, this neighborhood park features 2 cross country ski machines and a universal exercise station with several different types of exercises.
- Cornwallis Road Park : This 19.97 acre park is located in South Durham at 2830 Wade Road. Cornwallis Road Park has a cardio stepper on the trail near the bridge to the playground.
- Edgemont Park: Located in East Central Durham at 205 S Elm Street, Edgemont Park has several pieces of aerobic equipment. They have a recumbent bicycle, a cross country ski machine and stationary strength building equipment including a sit up bench, pull up bars, push up bars, a lift station, and 2 core building platforms.
- Indian Trail Park: Indian Trail Park is an 8.5 acre park located in West Central Durham at 2309 Indian Trail. A series of strength training exercise stations, including chin up bars, parallel bars, over head rings, sit and reach, over head ladder and more! These stations can be found along the West Ellerbee Creek Trail, which can be accessed through Indian Trail Park.
- Rock Quarry Park/Edison Johnson Recreation Center: Located at 500 W Murray Avenue, this area features a lift & row station, pull up bar station, push up station, a pipe climber, and two sit up stations. There are even placards with exercise suggestions for each piece of equipment.
As you plan your trip to one of these five Durham parks, make sure you prepare accordingly! Here's a list of things we suggest packing:
- A water bottle (to stay hydrated)
- A rag or cloth (to wipe down the equipment before and after use)
- A pair of sunglasses (to protect your eyes from the sun)
