Let's Take A Walk: Healthy Mile Trails in Durham

Let's get healthy one mile at a time! Did you know there are Healthy Mile Trails scattered around Durham parks and trails!? Durham Parks and Recreation along with several other organizations such as Bull City United, City of Durham, Durham County Department of Public Health, Durham Housing Authority, to name a few, have partnered with Partnership for a Healthy Durham to create walking trails throughout Durham! These one mile loops are marked on the pavement by a symbol of a walker in permanent yellow and green paint! What an easy way to get a some exercise in your local Durham neighborhood!

Our Durham parks and recreation centers feature several Healthy Mile Trail locations nearby including: 
*Recently installed as of September 2021 by employees from the Durham County Health Services department and Durham Parks and Recreation

Walking these trails can be more powerful than it might seem! Alerting you mentally and physically; paying attention to what you see, hear, smell and feel brings you into the present time and place, in order to put you in the state of relishing the moment. And let's not forget how meaningful some quality time spent with family and friends truly is, at any point of day! Young or old, these trails are meant for encouraging the community to instill healthy habits!

On Sunday, October 10, the Triangle Heart Walk will be taking place in several locations, including two Healthy Mile Trails in Durham! Both the Northgate Park Trail and the Holton Trail will be sites for participation in this important campaign for heart health. Register to participate online!
